At the recent 4th FCVC event, we interviewed President of Nuvera Fuel Cells LLC, Mr. Jon Taylor (Hereinafter referred to as: Nuvera).
Jon Taylor对中国市场非常看好，他认为，从全球氢能燃料电池商业化角度分析，中国区域的市场发展潜力巨大，将成为全球电动汽车以及燃料电池汽车的技术引领者；Nuvera公司也期待能够通过和中国的合作伙伴及供应商协作，共同打造全球高效氢能供应链，提供高效、高产、低成本燃料电池系统。
Jon Taylor is very optimistic about the Chinese market. He believes that from the perspective of the global commercialization of hydrogen fuel cells, China has great potential for fuel cell development, and it will become a global technology leader for both electric and fuel cell vehicles. Nuvera is also looking forward to working with Chinese partners and suppliers to help to build a globally efficient hydrogen supply chain providing high-performance, high-volume and low-cost fuel cell systems.

Nuvera is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyster-Yale, a leading worldwide lift truck manufacturer with an expanding presence in China. Nuvera has a 20-year history of hydrogen fuel cell production, and its fuel cells have been successfully deployed in forklifts of its parent company, as well as of other industrial truck manufacturers. Nuvera’s fuel cell products are designed to meet or exceed the needs of the global market in terms of efficiency, safety and productivity.

“We have years of technology development and know-how in the use of uncoated metal plates and the manufacture of fuel cell stacks with high power density, as well as a unique optimized control system for optimized performance and ease of integration”, Jon Taylor stated, “Nuvera has committed to fuel cell stack development and performance improvement, with an intellectual property portfolio of more than 500 fuel cell-related patents.”

According to Jon Taylor, Nuvera's business has grown rapidly in the past two years, with projects developing in China, the United States and, to a lesser extent, Europe. During Jon’s Interview with our In-En reporter, he emphasized that “the reduction of carbon emissions at shipping ports is very important”. Nuvera has a 90-kilowatt fuel cell project at the Port of Los Angeles, which will be used in a top loading container handler. An additional ports project is anticipated in Europe in 2020.

Jon Taylor坦言，中国燃料电池市场不仅对Nuvera公司非常重要，对于全球氢能发展都是至关重要的领袖，Nuvera公司计划今后继续加大在中国市场的投入。
Jon Taylor indicated that the Chinese hydrogen fuel cell market is not only very important to Nuvera, but is also a critical leader of global hydrogen energy development. Nuvera plans to continue increasing its investment in the Chinese market in the future.
在美国，Nuvera公司的燃料电池主要应用于叉车，而在中国，巴士，商用车以及物流车领域是Nuvera开发的重要方向。“我们在中国业务也将开展研发项目，便于优化生产和产品性能，目前正在与部分车企就Nuvera的燃料发动机整合进行洽谈”，Jon Taylor表示。
In the United States, Nuvera's fuel cells are mainly used in forklifts currently, while in China, buses, commercial vehicles and logistics vehicles are important applications for Nuvera product development. “We will include R&D activities in our China operations to facilitate production and performance optimization and are currently in discussions with several OEMs regarding integration of Nuvera fuel cell engines,” said Jon Taylor.

The In-En.com observed that at the end of last year, Nuvera signed a fuel cell stack manufacturing agreement with the Fuyang District Government of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The agreement includes incentives and support from Fuyang district government for the manufacture of Nuvera fuel cell stacks within China beginning in 2020.

Jon Taylor told our reporter, “The Fuyang project has a total planned annual production capability of 5,000 units, with potential for substantial future expansion.”

Finally, Jon Taylor said that to ensure the goal of carbon-free transportation in China, fuel cell providers and their partners will have to establish a robust and efficient hydrogen fuel cell technology supply chain. Nuvera’s strategy to achieve success in China is to be the preferred provider of high-performance, high-volume and low-cost fuel cell engines.
